The Motorcycle Diaries (2004) is powerful and moving as it sets out to show us the experience that propelled Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara from ernest medical student to infamous revolutionary.
In 1952, Ernesto Guevara and Alberto Granado embark on a journey to see Latin America. Ernesto (23) is one year off completing his leprology focused medical studies and Alberto is a 29 year old biochemist. We accompany them on their journey, revealing a beautiful, stark landscape riven with injustice and struggling to define a changing identity. This, the director posits, is the formative experience that shapes a compassionate young man into the globally recognized communist revolutionary he becomes.
Filled with adventure, romance, soul and red-blooded latin idealism The Motorcycle Diaries is perfect to watch while on the road, reminding us that the journey is often the destination. With fine acting, expert cinematography and a fitting score The Motorcycle Diaries is tonic for the soul.
